Mechel started upgrading its nickel production

In May Mechel started upgrading its nickel production. As a result of reconstruction Yuzhuralnickel will increase FeNi output from 14,400 tonnes produced in 2006 to more than 20,000tpy.

Two new electric furnaces will produce FeNi (20% Ni). The construction of new facilities will allow to reduce production costs by 30-40% to correspond to the average global level, Mechel’s CEO said.
