Decision on antidumping duties for Kazakh, Chinese and Ukrainian SiMn to be made in October

17.10.2007

The European Commission may impose antidumping duties on SiMn import from Kazakhstan and China only. If imposed, the duties will come into effect on December 5 2007 (deadline for investigation completion). Suggested duty for Kazakhstan will make 7.8%, for China – 9.1%.

The decision must be approved by 27 members of the European Commission. As an exception, the duty will not be imposed on Ukrainian SiMn or it will be rather low. The European Commission will have to balance the interests of European ferroalloys producers and metallurgical companies.

If the suggested duties are approved, it will not ruin the balance of SiMn supplies to the European market. The duty is not so high for Kazakhstan and China to significantly reduce SiMn shipments to Europe. The export from these countries is most likely to remain rather stable.

Ukrainian producers will be able to increase SiMn production and supplies to Europe if the duty is not imposed or its amount is low.
